The River Hills Railroad (RHRR) has been established to provide its shareholders with a vehicle to acquire from Canadian Pacific, the assets comprising the portion of the CP Line between Mile 67.50, near Rathwell, Manitoba to Mile 130.30, near Page, Manitoba.
The rail line is 62.8 miles of 100 pound Mackie Steel.
There are 5 sidings located in the towns of Treherne, Holland, Cypress River, Glenboro and Nesbitt, Manitoba. River Hills Railroad Inc. began at a community meeting held on August 6th, 2009 in Holland, Manitoba.
To meet this objective, RHRR has examined the financial, business, and political aspects related to the purchase of the Line in terms of:
- Benefits to the agricultural industry in the RHRR catchment area;
- Benefits to other industry at various points along the line;
- Benefits to local economies;
- Benefits for the municipal and provincial governments relative to future economic development opportunities, maintenance of tax bases, and the highway and grid road systems.
Benefits to Provincial Government:
- Stabilization of the local economic units adjacent to RHRR;
- Retention of current revenues and increased future revenues (from income tax, shared portion of GST, negative population fluctuations slowed);
